Potty Training

How to Start Potty Training

The first thing to understand before you Start Potty Training is you are going to need to have patience, and I mean patience and lots of it. At times you will feel like you are taking one steps forward and two step back, but you and your little one will get there eventually.

If you leave a potty where your child can see it this will help them to get used to it, they can get to know what it is and what it is used for and this will help when you decide to start training. If your little one has an older sibling they may see there brother or sister using the potty which will encourage them to use it themselves, this will also help them realise that this is something that they don't need to worry about, which will be a great help when it is their turn to start using it. It will also helps to let your child know that you use the toilet and explain why and when you need to use it.

When To Start Potty Training

If your child has a regular bowel movement at the same time each day this will make the starting of potty training much easier as you will know when to leave their nappy off and suggest that they go on the potty instead. If your child shows the slightest signs of being upset by this then just put the nappy back on and leave it a couple  more weeks before trying again. Children reach a point where they themselves want to be clean and to push to hard before this time will only cause stress to you and your child.

No-one knows your child and their toilet routine better than you and you will soon get to know when to encourage them to use the potty. If your child slips up, which they will do many times, just mop it up and wait for the next time. Also don't make a fuss and pay no attention if they have an accident as this can cause your child to become anxious about toilet training and they are more likely to avoid using the potty next time. It is going to take time for them to get the hang of it but you and your little one will get there in the end.

Your child will be delighted when they manage to use the potty and it's important that you give them lots of praise when they succeed, never give sweets as a reward as this will cause you more problems. when the time is right your child will want to use the potty  and they will just be happy to get it right.

Here at The World Of Babies we have put together a huge selection of potties and have found a Fisher Price Potty thawe think will help with training as it's quite quirky and fun to use, but you will also find many other, some of which play music while your child tinkles.
